Thank You!

On behalf of the Jubilee Choir of Epiphany we want to thank everyone who made it to their 10th year anniversary fund-raising concert. We continue to share our music ministry in hopes of bringing God’s word in sanctuary music to all we encounter. In gratefulness we will offer Christmas songs to our parishioners before the 5:30pm Mass on Sunday, December 28th. Thank you for making the concert a great success!

The Giving Tree

Please choose an ornament from the Giving Tree in the church. You may bring an appropriate, new, unwrapped children’s gift or a donation for a plant for the homebound to the Parish Office by December 15th. Thank you for your generosity.

Announcements

School Christmas Concert

Everyone is invited to our school’s annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 10th at 7:00pm, in our church.

Christmas Gifts

With unemployment and poverty increasing, many families may not be able to afford Christmas gifts for their children this year. If you need help with presents for your children, please phone the parish office and leave your name, phone number and address and the names, ages, and gender of your children before December 13th. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society will deliver the gifts from the Giving Tree before Christmas.

Novena of Masses (Simbang Gabi)

“Journeying as Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord” is the theme of our Novena of Masses for Christmas, which is being coordinated by the Spiritual Life Commission. It begins Monday, December 15th at 7:00pm until the culmination on Tuesday, December 23rd.

Each evening will consist of a faith testimony, a homily by the celebrant, one of our choirs singing and a reception in the cafeteria. Let us all come together and prepare for the coming of the PRINCE OF PEACE, THE KING OF KINGS and THE LORD OF ALL! For information, please call:

Reflections GOSPEL: Mark 1:1-8
In this gospel reading Mark introduces John the Baptist as the messenger of the Messiah, sent by God to prepare his path. John preaches a baptism of repentance and the forgiveness of sins in the desert by the River Jordan. The coming Messiah will baptize with the Holy Spirit. He is mightier than John or any of the prophets before him.

Let us prepare for Jesus’ coming as John taught the people to prepare: with repentance for our sins, with welcoming hearts, with unselfish love, and with generosity for one another.

1.) Why does Mark’s gospel begin with the story of John the Baptist?

2.) How does Mark connect John and Jesus to the Hebrew scripture?

3.) John has sometimes been called the last Hebrew prophet. Where did he preach and baptize? To whom did his preaching point?

4.) What does the last verse of John’s gospel mean when it says, “I have baptized you with water, he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit?”
