Announcements
Archbishops
Annual Appeal
Those
of us who attend church here at Epiphany
parish have been blessed with many gifts
for the benefit of others and ourselves.
We are so grateful to our parishioners who
returned their pledges and donations for
the Archbishopss Annual Appeal last
week. Please support and pray for the
success of this Appeal. We also ask that
our parishioners may consider what all of
us can do to help with this important
work. When everyone participates, the
burden is lighter and the church grows and
flourishes. To those who have not received
the pastors letter and the giving
guide in the brochure (to help determine
your gift), please pick up a brochure at
any entrance of the church. Our assigned
goal is $84,800.00.
(grades

Operation
Rice Bowl
Catholic
Relief Services supports families around
the world through projects that develop
agriculture, clean water, small business,
health and nutrition for mothers and
children, education, and support of those
with HIV and AIDS. This Lent we are asked
to pray, fast, and learn about our
brothers and sisters who live in poverty.
Please take home a Rice Bowl and Lenten
Calendar to read about families helped by
Catholic Relief Services. Finally, donate
the money you save by fasting, abstaining,
and eating simple meals.

Lenten
Regulations:
*ABSTINENCE:
All who have reached their 14th birthday
are to abstain from eating meat on all
Fridays during Lent.
*FASTING:
All those who are 18 and older, until
their 59th birthday, are to fast on Good
Friday. Only one full meal is allowed on
days of fast. Two other meals, sufficient
to maintain strength, may be taken
according to ones needs. But
together, they should not equal a full
meal. Eating between meals is not
permitted, but liquids are
allowed.
The
obligation does not apply to those whose
health or ability to work would be
seriously affected. People in doubt about
fast or abstinence should consult a parish
priest.
Reflections
GOSPEL:
Matthew 17: 1-9
Three of Jesus closest friends
arrive at a new understanding of him in
todays gospel. They are allowed to
get a glimpse of him as he will be after
his passion, death, and resurrection.
Jesus is seen as the fulfillment of the
Law (represented by Moses) and the
Prophets (represented by Elijah) of the
Old Testament. He is Son of God and
Messiah, in whom we experience Gods
presence and in whose image we will be
transfigured.
We read
todays story of the transfiguration
so that we, too, might be led to a new
understanding of Jesus. He is greater than
we could ever have thought, and tells us,
Do not be afraid. Keep your eyes on
me.
1.) How
are you like Peter in this
gospel?
2.) How
can you keep your eyes on Jesus in works
of justice and mercy, in help for those
less fortunate?
3.) Who
or what can help you seek Jesus
here?
